ECT News Network; 2004-2006

As a daily freelance reporter, I wrote 2-3 assigned stories per day on all aspects of technology and business news.

HP World magazine; 2001-2004

As senior editor of this monthly print and online magazine, I wrote news and feature stories related to HP hardware, software, and innovation. I developed new standing features to anchor different sections such as New Ideas from HP Innovators. I also copy edited and designed pages.

Salon.com; 2001

I worked as an online copy editor and writer.

San Jose Mercury News; 1993-2000

I worked as a copy editor in sports and then in Metro. I designed pages, wrote headlines and captions, and did final copy edits on stories. I also did a stint as a photo editor.

Special education consulting

Shor Success; 2007-present

Work with students, parents, and teachers to ensure that students with Individual Education Plans are getting the best possible services. Work with students  to develop academic and behavioral skills ans strategies.

Niles West High School; 2013-2019

Assisted students with reading, writing and study skills. Utilized data from reading assessments to devise a plan for individuals struggling readers. Helped teachers understand the data as it applied to individuals and classes. Established academic intervention processes to assist teachers and students.   

  • Played a key role in developing the reading resource room to create plans for challenged readers, aid students with reading and writing assignments and cultivate a safe space for readers of all abilities. 

Summer School Teacher   

  • Taught creative writing to all levels of high school students and reading readiness to incoming freshman with IEPs, PLPs and in RTI tier-two interventions. Developed curriculum and assessment tools.

ACT and SAT Preparatory Teacher   

  • Taught strategies and skills to aid students in enhancing ACT and SAT scores. 

CICS Chicago Quest; 2011-2013

As Learning Strategist, helped co-found the game-based curriculum model. Conceived and played a key role in devising processes and curriculum using common core standards for teaching at an urban middle school. Created remediation programs for math and reading. 

  • Teamed with a cross-functional group of teachers to produce differentiated learning materials in all domains. 

  • Co-facilitated classes in math, writing, history, arts, science and math.
